Outdoor Adventure Easter Basket For Kids

Easter baskets seem to get a little more difficult to put together as children get older. And definitely more expensive! This year I struggled a bit on what I wanted to put in my 9 year old’s basket and decided on an outdoor adventure Easter basket for kids. This basket would be great for kiddos ages 6-9 who love the nature and exploring the outdoors. Once I decided on this theme, it was easy for me to gather a huge list of ideas to put in the basket. Just like I did with my baby’s first Easter basket, I ended up having to take out several items because it was just too much. I don’t want Easter to be just about baskets and candy and toys. I want the focus to stay on Jesus so I tried to keep the baskets fairly simple.

If you haven’t seen my last post – Baby’s First Easter Basket, go check that out here! And last year’s Mindful Easter Basket For Kids post here.

Last year I started the tradition of adding a personalized wood name tag from 6211 Designs to my son’s basket. And now I had one made for my baby! I just love these so much. I think it adds such a fun and special touch to the baskets. Check out this Etsy shop for some really cute handmade items! price: $15

I got the boys and myself matching sunglasses for Easter this year! These sunnies from Roshambo are not just any cheap glasses that last a month. These babies are nearly impossible to break! They bend and twist and are made for babies and kids. My son has sensitive eyes like me, but he always breaks any new pair of sunglasses I get him! I can’t wait to get a photo of all three of us with our awesome matching durable sunnies. They have lots of bright fun colors to choose from and they even have festive Easter egg tins to put the sunglasses in, making it so perfect for an Easter basket. Use my code WILD15 for 15% off all sunglasses! price: $25

Every year I put a new book in my son’s basket. And even though he is reading chapter books, he really loves picture books as much as I do. I got a copy of Nature Parade by author Nikki Samuels. I have been waiting for this book to be published as I had been following Nikki on Instagram for some time and got to see some bits and pieces of her book being created. Well, this one does not disappoint! The illustrations and story are just beautiful. I know my son is going to love this one! price: $15

I printed a new Spring nature journal from Raising Up Wild Things and had it bound at UPS. These make really wonderful gifts that are both entertaining and educational for children. Make sure you check out her online shop. Natalie has some really amazing products! We now every season of her nature journals and just love them so much. Once you buy the digital copy, you can print out as many as you’d like! So if you have multiple children that want their own nature journal, this is a really budget-friendly option. price: $12

I found these forest animal paper crackers from Meri Meri a couple years ago and have slowly gifted these to my son. Some were in his stocking at Christmas and now I put the owl in his Easter basket. I’ll probably put the bear in there too. These are fun little paper poppers that have little keychains, a paper hat and a joke inside. This set had a fox, owl, bear, and deer. I hope they bring them back because these would make SUPER cute birthday party favors, too! Meri Meri does have these adorable bunny crackers available now, though!

I put in a new pair of binoculars because my son can never seem to have enough. We keep one in his bedroom so he can look out his window into the forest. He also keeps one in the car and in his backpack! price: $22

To go with the binoculars, I added in a local birds folding pocket guide. These pocket pamphlets are SO handy! You can find them on Amazon (I believe every state has them) and they have wildflowers, wildlife, birds, and insect identification for each state. There are also several more non state specific pocket guides such as trees, mushroom ID, wilderness first aid, geology, and many more. price: $8

A pocket style copper clamshell compass is just waiting to be used on their next adventure. price: 2 for $11

A Year of Forest School Activity cards are really fun to bring with on a nature hike or with a nature play group/ co-op. price: $17

These twig colored pencils are a favorite in our home. They are so fun to use in a nature journal and my son enjoys sharpening the pencils with his little pocket knife. price: $6.99

Every year my son’s basket has a chocolate bunny. I go back an forth between Dove, Lindt and Godiva. YUM!

These little battery operated lanterns are at Dollar Tree for just a buck! My son collects vintage style lanterns like this so I thought this one would be a fun touch. It will just be used as decor in his room, but if you’re looking for a functional lantern, you can find some cool ones on Amazon.

Have you ever heard of a nursing strike ? I had no Have you ever heard of a nursing strike ? I had not until I experienced this with Theo the past 2 days 😩 He refused to nurse for over 40 hours and I have been an absolute mess. He would be screaming one minute, happy as a clam the next. Waking up at 4 AM and not napping all day & would push me away and scream every time I tried to nurse him. I was in so much pain and beyond engorged. I tried pumping every few hours and the first day that worked just fine but then today my milk just would not let down and it took 45 minutes to get just over 2 ounces of milk! Last night he did finally take a bit from a sippy cup of my milk and was eating purees and snacks like normal, but just would not nurse. I called his Dr. yesterday and she had no idea what it could be. I was afraid I was going to get mastitis or that my milk would dry up or that there was something really seriously wrong with me or with Theo. I was texting my best friend just utterly exhausted and frustrated and at my wits end.
Then around 2:00 just 15 minutes after I texted her to vent, I tried ONE more time to nurse him and he nursed!! I cried happy tears and thanked Jesus over and over.
I never got to breastfeed my first, so this has been an all new journey with Theo. Lately nursing seemed to be getting more difficult and I was getting a bit burnt out with it- being the only one that can feed him and that he still wakes 3+ times a night to nurse... but I will never take it for granted again. What a blessing it is to be able to nurse. I am so tired I could cry again just typing this out😭
After trying EVERYTHING it suggested to do online, he finally nursed and I can breathe again. I have no idea what was wrong, but he's nursing again normally and took nice long nap this afternoon 🙏
Anyone experience anything like this before ?
